An Intriguing and Refreshing Read
The best thing about taking part in blog tours, is they tend to push you outside your comfort zone. Rather than reading a book you gravitate to on the jam-packed shelves of bookstores, next to every other book you generally buy, every now and again you are invited to read and review a book that may just surprise you. This book, The After Wife by Cass Hunter, is the perfect example of just that.
The blurb below was sent ahead of the book, and intriguing though it was, I have to admit I was in no way prepared for the emotions the words on these pages would drag out of me.

After spending most of the last few months reviewing psychological thrillers, I was looking forward to something that gripped my heartstrings a little more. Cass Hunter certainly did that – and surprised me in the most unusual way at the same time.
Losing a wife and mother and coming to terms with the grieving process, although not a unique concept, generally makes for a great emotional read; but if you are thinking this is a straightforward love story, you would be mistaken. The hidden layers of this story really do explore much more. I prepared myself for an ’emotional family drama’ – what I got was a combination of an emotionally crafted love story combined with a slight sci-fi twist that, instead of feeling ‘unbelievable’, only served to make the characters emotional journeys all the more real.
I have to admit, this is the first book I have read in a long while that has me struggling to review it without telling you ALL the details and giving spoilers, but I will do my very best.
The After Wife explores the journey of a husband and daughter as they navigate the difficult road to recovery after the sudden death of talented scientist Rachel.
Before her sudden death, Rachel was working on a top secret AI project, one that she hopes will help vulnerable people in the future. But Rachel was hiding a secret or two from her family – her death sees those secrets come to life and Aidan’s world will never be the same again.
Cass Hunter writes in such a way that you find it almost impossible to put the book down. You can tell she is an author who truly lived in the world she created on the page, you can feel all the emotions of the characters so intensely jumping from the page.
An emotional rollercoaster that will have you reaching for the box of tissues. Readers who connect with the likes of Amanda Prowse and Rowan Coleman will love this book. However, those who watched The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Bicentennial Man or even those who enjoy a story that really leaves you questioning the idea of true and everlasting love will easily fall in love with the characters Cass has created and the world that iRachel leaves you exploring.
A truly touching book putting a truly fresh spin on the idea of the endurance of love – even after death.
