One Night in Edinburgh by Nina Kaye Synopsis

One night. But how many second chances?
Heartbroken on Hogmanay, Steph wanders through the street parties of Edinburgh until she bumps into Jamie. He’s funny, attractive and clearly interested. In a word, he’s perfect – but she didn’t get his number. All she remembers is his lime and mango beer.

Determined to be reunited, Steph tracks him by a milk carton style campaign, sticking a message to his favourite beer across local pubs. Although eventually reunited, Jamie is frequently uncontactable and evasive, and Steph worries she’s on the path to heartbreak once more.

There’s a fine line between being patient and being gullible, and Steph’s reaching her limit. When a chance encounter with Jamie on the streets reveals his secret, she faces an even tougher decision. Should Steph give love another chance, or was one night in Edinburgh all she and Jamie were meant to have?

One Night in Edinburgh by Nina Kaye Review

Fun, Flirty and Fabulously Addictive

I will start this review with a caveat; this is not the first Nina Kaye novel I have read. Nor is it the first I have loved. I say this because many will think that the gushing I will do about this novel will be down to finding a new debut author to get excited about; instead, I am excited about this novel because it is so rare to find an author that you can pick up time and time again and still get that frisson of first love all over again. Nina Kaye is one such author.

Let’s get real here, there aren’t many elements of this book that break with stereotype. In fact, it is full of the typical Romantic fiction tropes, but that is where the strength of this book lies. Instead of trying to re-invent the wheel, Nina has taken the aspects of Romance writing that we love so much, and given us exactly what we want, need and expect. It is a comforting feeling to pick up a book and know that you will put that book down with a heart full of love – and once again – Nina Kaye does not disappoint.

About the Author
Nina Kaye is a contemporary romance author who writes warm, witty and uplifting reads with a deeper edge. She lives in Edinburgh with her husband and much adored side-kick, James. In addition to writing, Nina enjoys swimming, gin and karaoke (preferably all enjoyed together in a sunny, seaside destination). Nina has previously published The Gin Lover’s Guide to Dating  and Take a Moment – and has also been a contender for the RNA Joan Hessayson Award.

Hogmanay (New Years Eve for those who are not aware of the Scottish terminology) is one of the happiest and most spectacular nights of the year, especially for those lucky enough to experience it in Edinburgh. The atmosphere is always electric and the love that filters through the cobbled streets lends itself perfectly to a romance movie or novel. But this particular Hogmanay stings just a little for our main character, Steph.

Long term boyfriend, Connor, choses this spectacular evening to break Steph’s heart. With her heart in pieces while those around her celebrate, friend Anna convinces Steph to join her at a party to try and boost her spirits. Of course, this is where she meets Jamie. Despite her very recent heartbreak, it’s so obvious that there is a spark between them.

The path of ‘new love’ never does run smooth, and One Night in Edinburgh certain brings twists and turns to keep us readers on our toes, this new relationship will be as rocky as the cobbled streets they walk upon – will it all be worth it?

With two characters dealing with complicated lives and broken hearts, can they find a way to make each other happy?  I loved the setting of this book, and having grown up in Scotland, i felt truly at ‘home’ when reading the descriptions of Edinburgh. The supporting characters add real depth to the novel and the writing is effortless.

One Night in Edinburgh is a cute, romantic and flirty read that leaves you feeling warm and comforted. With so much negativity around at the moment, this is one book that really does leave you with the warm and fuzzies, so if you are looking for a bit of escapism with a truly heartwarming ending, this is the perfect romance novel for you.
