Me Without You by Kelly Rimmer Synopsis

A story of how love can break our hearts – and heal them.
A year ago I met the love of my life. For two people who didn’t believe in love at first sight, we came pretty close.
Lilah MacDonald – beautiful, opinionated, stubborn and all kinds of wonderful in ways that words could never quite capture. The woman who taught me to live again.
My Lilah, who gave me so much, and yet kept from me a secret that she knew would break my heart.
My name is Callum Roberts, and this is our story.

Me Without You by Kelly Rimmer Review

A Heartbreaking Story of Love, Loss and Hope

I’ve just finished Me Without You by Kelly Rimmer… and I am broken. This was an utterly heartbreakingly beautiful book… beautifully written, no scrap that, it was expertly crafted. This book felt less like a novel you pick up and read on a beach and much more like a story that was teased out of the heartbroken bones of true life. Researched and written in such a tactful way.

About the book:

The book is written from two points of view. We hear from Callum, who is fast approaching 40 and is yet to settle down. Focusing on his work life, it seems Callum rarely looks up to experience to small details in life. Then Lilah MacDonald walks into his life, quite by accident. Lilah is even less interested in starting a relationship, but the world conspires against the couple and a spark grows into a flame before either of them have a chance to dampen the fire.

Callum is straight-laced, stuck in his ways and hiding from life; Lilah is opinionated, stubborn and a free spirit in every way that Callum can’t understand. They are the most unlikely pair – but that means little to the free hand of fate that keeps bringing them together.

Lilah has opened up Callum’s eyes and his heart. She has shown him love, but it is a love that will break him – because Lilah is keeping a secret!

This book was a cherry pop for me and have to say I’m angry I haven’t read more of Kelly Rimmer’s work before.  There wasn’t a moment in this book when I didn’t want to shake Lilah and tell her to tell the truth or hug Callum close and heal his pain.

Me Without You is a story of love, loss, and hope. Not only is it thoughtfully written, but it’s a story that stays with you long after you turn the last page. In many ways, Lilah’s legacy lives on through me – with her attitudes towards life making me look twice at my surroundings. Callum’s legacy lives on too… because now, every time I have a ‘Callum’ moment and forget to experience life, I remember just how much he changed when he threw caution to the wind and lived a little.

These characters became REAL to me. I lived with them for the entirety of the book, and they continue to live on each time I watch a wave crash against the shoreline.

A must-read for anyone who loves David Nicholls, JoJo Moyes or Amanda Prowse.
