Guilty Pleasures

Let’s Face It – We All Have Them

Let’s Face It – We All Have Them

Be it the music we secretly listen to when no one is around, or the food we indulge in when no one is looking, every person can admit to at least one Guilty Pleasure. Life is simply too short and 99% of the time we have to show the rest of the world that we are responsible, sensible, practical people. But for 1% of our time on this planet, when no one else is watching, we can indulge ourselves and it is sometimes the best time of all.

I am the first to admit that I am good at putting a ‘face on’. Most people know me the way I choose them to know me (yep, that’s my control freak nature rearing its ugly head again) – and I am very careful who I allow into that other 1% of my life. It was not until recently, almost 9 years into a relationship with my gorgeous husband, that I finally admitted to one of my guilty pleasures… and do you know what… it felt really good to get it out in the open.

So, here is a challenge, for those of you who choose to accept it. Join me, and for a moment of your day, allow yourself to embrace your 1%. Share your guilty pleasures! If I get the ball rolling and admit a few of mine, do you dare to do the same?

1: Puzzles

Yep, this is the guilty pleasure I finally admitted to my husband just before Christmas. As a child we would get a puzzle each and every year from Santa and most years it was the most anticipated present. This year, my husband actually bought me a puzzle and I was transported back in time. I squealed like a 6 year old. For me, there is nothing more satisfying that watching the whole picture develop bit by bit – and being the person in control of making it all come together.

2: Cheesy American Sitcoms

Ever since I was a child I have been glued to the TV whenever American sitcoms come on. Boy Meets World and Moesha ruled my bedroom. To this day, if I were given the choice between two TV channels, one with a predictable British soap opera and the other a cheesy American Teen Sitcom, I would always choose the latter every time.

3: Late night snacks in bed

This is a naughty one, especially as I am so incredibly strict about my children having food anywhere near the bedrooms. But there is simply nothing better than sitting in a cozy bed, with a hot cup of tea, a big ass bar of Galaxy chocolate and a bag of crisps. I think part of the reason I love it so much is the idea that somewhere in the back of my mind I know that my own mum would scream at me if she could see me doing it. The rebel in me giggles each and every time.

4: Cheesy 80s music and films

If I need a pick me up – the 80s is the only time period that will scratch that itch. Sod dancing around the room to Pharells ‘Happy’, give me the Pretty Woman, Top Gun or Dirty Dancing soundtrack any day of the week. 10 minutes of belting out a few of those tunes and I am strong enough to take on the world!

So there we have it. Despite the façade I embrace on a daily basis, I have a few guilty pleasures that make even me a little more human… So no need to feel shy ladies… What are your guilty pleasures? Share and share all. You never know, you may be unlocking a new guilty pleasure in others!
