Twelve years later, Rachel has used her experiences to help her in life, determined not to be a victim. She becomes a psychiatrist and for the past eleven years, has been in a relationship with Will, but the relationship is stale and with no commitment on the horizon and Rachel is in a rut.
As Rachel buries her head in the worries of others, she forgets to truly look after herself, and when tragedy strikes Rachel again, she finds it hard to find her own way out. That is until she starts receiving anonymous letters. She may not know the person that tried to help her, but these letters give her strength and inspiration to pull through the dark moments.
The Secret Letters isn’t your typical romance novel, there is a darker and much more complex side to this book that really grips you as you turn the pages.
This powerful book, with poignant and beautiful moments, offers a truly different type of romance read for those looking for something deeper than a beach book summer. Touches of beauty light the dark moments, and the characters are so beautifully drawn. The addition of the Mr. Lemon really gave the book another layer of depth, in fact, he quickly became one of my favourite characters.
Despite the story revolving around a violent incident, this is far from a ‘victim’ book. This is a story about overcoming, about becoming strong, about finding your happiness. The Secret Letters is a strong, powerful and thought-provoking novel and one that I would recommend highly.
